Hello sweet friends! Welcome to my little corner of the internet. Whelp, I let life get in the way a bit and stopped posting for a while. I straight up just couldn’t find the time or energy. But man oh man do I have tenacity! If I set my mind to something I am definitely going to achieve it at some point in time, even if it’s a little behind schedule… I am big on fresh starts, and although New Year’s resolutions present their challenges and can be quite polarizing, I am a firm believer in those too! So, with a brand spankin’ new year and new month by my side, I am setting out yet again to accomplish one of my goals: reading 12 books this year! And so far I’m one-for-one! This month I (re)reread the first book written by the hilarious and fabulous Mindy Kaling! And yes, this book has even had it’s own Book of the Month post already. I just began the 75 Hard challenge for the second time (more on that in a future post), and one of its requirements is that you read 10 pages of a non-fiction book each day. I much prefer fiction myself, so I tend to read fun celebrity memoirs to complete the task; hey, I have to start somewhere!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Mindy is a lovely woman of many talents: actress, comedian, screenwriter, producer, director, author, and probably even more! She is quick-witted, effortlessly funny, and wildly relatable. I always feel like she is a close friend. As I’m sure most of planet Earth knows, she was a writer and actress on The Office (U.S. Version)! She then went on to write, produce, and star in The Mindy Project, which is one of my favorite shows of all time—even though I haven’t seen every single episode (to tackle them all is yet another goal of mine). Once I’m finally caught up though, you better believe I’ll be reading the rest of Mindy’s growing publications! Her most recent television creations Never Have I Ever and The Sex Lives of College Girls will most definitely be binged as well!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me was on the New York Times Bestsellers list for 5 weeks!!! In it, Mindy tells stories of her life from childhood all the way to the present (2011 at the time). She also uses this book as a means to point out her firm and funny opinions on love, friendship, her body type, and the film & television industry.

The tone is very informal—it almost feels like a letter written by a friend or a fun conversation. You learn a lot about Mindy from facts and stories that she tells about herself, but also from her photos, jokes, and even bits of scripts that she’s included.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

  • Genre: Comedy, Memoir
  • Mindy includes cute images from her childhood and even some from her unfiltered camera roll
  • The first work that garnered Mindy some attention in the entertainment industry was a play she co-wrote with her best friend called Matt & Ben about Matt Damon and Ben Affleck

I found myself laughing out loud several times! Mindy’s humor is right up my alley, so for me it was just what I needed to get back into reading as quickly as possible. I had a blast reading about her life, and I still learned something new even with it being my third read through. I give it 5 out of 5 stars. ★★★★★
