I have always loved the show American Ninja Warrior–I’m in awe of the athleticism and determination of the contestants. Recently, my little brother Hunter, Keegan and I had the pleasure of going to Castle Rock Adventure Park in Castle Rock, CO where we participated in a mini ANW course! It was a blast, and I’ve never been more sore in my entire life!
It’s funny because, at first, we thought the course was pretty small, but we actually ended up spending two hours there. This course is perfect for testing your speed and agility outdoors! It even features a few of the obstacles that have been on the show. They have a sonic curve consisting of six steps arranged in a semi circle. You have to maintain your speed across the steps and leap to grab onto a zip line rope. They also have a balance log, an area where you jump to a spiderweb cargo net, and a slack line. There is even a salmon ladder with six levels that is wildly challenging. And of course they have the infamous warped wall, with 10′, 12′, and 14′ options (the 14′ version is Colorado’s largest warped wall). On the show, the warped wall is 14’6″ and the mega wall is a whopping 18′!
This course also includes a rock climbing wall! This was one of our favorite parts, and you can climb the wall up to 3 times! It was incredibly difficult to do, but I made it to the top and rang the bell!
For some reason we decided to try our hands at the warped wall after all of the other obstacles. I do not recommend this at all. Everyone should try the warped wall first as it takes a lot of energy. After rock climbing I felt like I was made of jello, which made the warped wall even more difficult for me!
I also urge you to stretch, warm up, and hydrate before attempting a course like this!! I think the three of us were so excited that we just jumped right into it with no warm up whatsoever. Hence my soreness!
The best part is that the course is only $19.00 per person! You can do the course for up to 2 hours, they are available for private parties, and they are open year-round from 9am to 6pm.
After completing the course, I admire the contestants on the show that much more, and I’m sure you will too!
